Possibly for the first time ever, we (Kate went along, because she had the money) went to a videogame place and walked out empty handed. She has a good chunk of store credit available due to turning in a bunch of stuff, and we couldn't find a way to spend it! Only found 3 PS2 games that looked like fun and 2 of them were basically similar to 1 I already have. Looked at the Xbox 360s and games, but only found a couple there worth playing (and I even have my doubts about them), so not worth it. Would have bought a PS3, however, Sony in their infinite stupidity quit making the units with backwards compatibility a couple months ago. Most of the stuff I have is PS2 and there was only 1 PS3 game that looked like it even had a shot at being interesting. Once again, definitely not worth throwing even the small amount of money it would take over the store credit to purchase it.
Maybe it's just me, but it sure seems like each generation of systems has worse and worse games. Sure the graphics and sound are better, but the game play is worse. Seems like you spend all this time sitting through "movies" that interrupt what little decent gameplay may exist. Much of the gameplay is also marred by overly complex controls. Fine if all you do all day is play videogames, but there's just nothing out there that you can a couple of friends can just "pick up and play" together. Get rid of the inane plots and neverending dialog, give us gameplay!
Very disappointing. Never expected that the PS2 might be the last game system worth getting, but the way things are shaping up, it may be...
