Once again, I went out in the garage to find my car sitting in a pool of coolant. The brand new lower coolant line to the oil cooler was the culprit. It's braiding is soaked in coolant, with the puddle right underneath it. Checked the brand new hose clamps, yep, they both were very loose, taking 2 full turns to get any tension on the hose. No signs of leaking from the upper hose (which is good, because it's very hard to reach).
What I really don't understand is why I consistently have these cooling system problems with both my cars and other people don't. It doesn't matter if I work on the car, or if I have various shops around town do it. The hose clamps always lose tension after a week or 2 with new hoses. Once the hoses are older it still happens, but I can usually go 6 months to a year before they loosen up enough to leak.
The whole idea of using a rubber hose over top of a metal tube, with a metal strap around it sounds like a bad idea anyways. Wouldn't have any of these problems if the hoses used an oil line type fitting. Must be cheaper this way...
